A character is tied up and abused, and a man fights with women. A gun is pulled but not fired. Language is extremely strong, with uses of "f--k," "s--t," "c--k," "c--t," and much more.

There's some background drinking and smoking, and pot is shown and referenced. Fans of popular horror director Eli Roth and star Keanu Reeves will want to see this, so beware.

One weekend, he stays home to work while they go to the beach. But during a rainstorm, two young women who claim to be lost knock on his door.

Eventually the women get flirty, and the trio tumbles into bed together -- but the next morning, Genesis and Bel act crazy and won't leave.

Things turn dark when they attack Evan, tie him up, and torment him. At first Evan thinks only of saving his marriage, but soon he becomes invested in saving his life.

Director Eli Roth returns with another loathsome movie, this time gleefully playing around with a home invasion, torture, pedophilia, and revenge but never seeming to know what he wants to say.

Details of Evan's supposed pedophilia are kept from viewers, so we have no idea just how bad his crime was -- only that his wife and kids seem to have forgiven him.

He does make a big mistake by jumping into bed with Genesis and Bel, but he more or less earns our sympathies. This brings up the question of why the two women would degrade themselves by sleeping with someone they intended to torture.

Other inconsistencies come up, too, but eventually it all collapses into a dumb torture show with characters acting, by turns, vicious and stupid.

Families can talk about Knock Knock 's violence. Does the violence directed toward woman seem stronger than the rest?

What message does that send? What's the impact of media violence on kids? Why would Evan choose to have sex with his female visitors? What does he risk?

How is sex portrayed in the movie? Does the movie glorify drinking , smoking , or drug use? Common Sense Media's unbiased ratings are created by expert reviewers and aren't influenced by the product's creators or by any of our funders, affiliates, or partners.

Movie review by Jeffrey M. Anderson , Common Sense Media. Horrible home-invasion thriller from Eli Roth. After Evan, Genesis, and Bel have had sex, Evan finds out that his wife's sculpture has been vandalized by the girls.

When Evan threatens to call the police, the girls reveal they are underage. Vivian Colleen Camp , a friend of Karen's, stops by to see if Evan needs help.

Seeing Genesis, Vivian angrily leaves. When Evan threatens to report a break-in, they give in and agree to be taken home.

He then returns home, cleans the mess, and tries to go back to his work. Just as he is getting closer to completing his project, he hears a shattering noise.

He finds a broken picture frame of his family and Genesis knocks him out with one of his wife's sculptures. Bel climbs onto him trying to arouse him while role-playing as a schoolgirl in his daughter's school uniform.

Evan initially refuses, but the girls threaten to FaceTime his wife with him unless he agrees with their methods.

Bel rapes him, and Genesis records everything. However, Evan breaks free and knocks Bel to the floor. He charges at Genesis, but is then disarmed by her and Bel who tie him up to a chair with an electrical cord.

Louis arrives to collect the sculpture and finds Evan, but before he can help him he hears the girls smashing the vandalized sculpture.

He runs to stop them, but then has an asthma attack and realizes they took his inhaler. As he tries to get it back, he slips on a piece of the sculpture, hits his head while falling, and dies.

They turn Louis's body into a red sculpture and dig a makeshift grave in the backyard for Evan. They also use both Evan's and Louis' phones to text and make it look like Louis discovered that Evan had an affair with Louis' wife and because of this, was murdered by Evan.

The girls trash the house and convince Evan to play hide and seek. When Genesis And Bel begin trying to find Evan, he makes an escape out of the house, only to be stopped and held at gunpoint by Genesis.

At dawn they tie Evan up with a hose, then bury him in the hole, leaving only his head above ground. The two then reveal how the entire ordeal was merely a "game", as they never intended to kill Evan nor are either of them underage and that everything they did was part of a wicked hobby of seducing, torturing, and ruining the homes of married men with children.

Genesis shows Evan the video she recorded earlier with his phone of him and Bel having sex. As Evan watches on, she uploads it to his Facebook profile.

They depart for another victim and take Monkey with them, leaving Evan to his fate as Karen and the kids arrive to find the house ruined, with Evan's son, Jake saying "Daddy had a party".

In an alternate ending Evan takes his revenge by tracking the girls at another victim's house via Monkey's GPS tracker on his collar, where he knocks on the door and the girls ask 'Who's there'.

With the wife and kids away on a beach trip, Evan uses the weekend to catch up on a project, enjoy some red wine, maybe smoke a little pot and listen to his treasured vinyl on the turntable.

And maybe take off their clothes and throw them in the dryer? And it does go there—sort of—in time. The playful pals snuggle up in fluffy, white robes while waiting for their clothes to dry and the car service to arrive which takes an estimated 45 minutes, conveniently.

The first half of the film is far superior to the second, as Roth takes his time and keeps us guessing as to who these girls really are and what might happen.

But then! There are two. Genesis and Bel reveal their true selves—we think—as noisy, destructive, overgrown children.

And the trouble is, the change happens out of nowhere; they become crazy people too quickly, and the change in tone is jarring.

Reeves, meanwhile, eventually amps up and camps it up as well, delivering a long and profane tirade while tied to a chair with an electrical cord.

The rest of this Eli Roth fiasco gets the middle finger from me. Aldo G Super Reviewer. Mar 16, It's been, almost, five days since the last movie I reviewed.

I've watched four films since then including this one. Three of the weren't available on here, therefore I did not review them.

I started watching another movie yesterday, but it was so awful that I switched to this one. My Guardian Angel was the awful movie in question and it's on Amazon.

I find it, legitimately, surprising that a movie as awful as that also has an accompanying series with the same terrible actors from the movie.

Anyway, so this was the movie I ended up watching and I have quite mixed feelings on it. On one hand, I don't think that the movie, at least from reading the consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, should be criticized for the fact that it is campy.

I think that the movie was intended to be campy and criticizing it for that is pointless. It's like criticizing a comedy for being TOO funny, you know.

Now, you might say, that I missed the point of Snakes on a Plane because I said it tried so hard to be 'so bad it's funny' that it was just bad and not what it actually it was intended to be.

That would be a fair point, but the intention was for the movie to be bad, but it failed at even that. This movie is meant to be campy, so I don't know how you use that as a negative.

Any movie that has Keanu Reeves literally begging for his life, doing more acting than he ever has attempted at any point prior in his career is clearly MEANT to be laughed at and not necessarily meant to be taken completely seriously.

On the other hand, part of me wasn't that into the movie or the characters. The concept is certainly interesting enough and there were clearly a lot of talented people behind the scenes and in front of the cameras.

They obviously worked very hard to make the best movie they possibly could. But, if I'm being honest, I already saw this movie over 10 years ago and I re-watched it again a couple of months ago and that movie is called Hard Candy.

The similarities are so apparent that it's impossible, if you watched both films, to compare this, unfavorably, to the superior Hard Candy.

There are differences between each movie, of course. Hard Candy focuses more on the torture that the lead character inflicts on the suspected pedophile.

This movie, while there are certainly some violent scenes, focuses more on the head games that Bel and Genesis play with Evan.

The girls lead him to believe that they are underage, therefore Evan has to do pretty much everything they say or else they'll ruin his life.

This is kind of weak when you take into consideration that, really, Bel and Genesis don't look like they're underage, at all. You can notice from a plane that these two women are several years above the legal age limit.

I suppose you could explain it away by saying that Evan isn't thinking rationally and is only worried about coming out of this situation with the least possible harm done to his perfect family life.

It was still a weak explanation, but it's something that people will let them get away with. Admittedly speaking, I don't think this is a bad movie.

It might be similar to Hard Candy in its concept, but I do legitimately think that the movie has a good concept, because it does.

It attempts to subvert the usual tropes associated with torture horror. And there's some clever moments in the film. I just don't think the movie has enough of these moments to carry it past the level that it reaches.

The level that it reaches, to me, is just average. I just felt that the movie could have been even crazier than it was. All things considered, given everything that DID go on here, this feels a little bit tame.

I know that's a little weird given the amount of sexual content that is here, but I feel that the movie could have been a little crazier and even more subversive.

Honestly, this just plays out in a fairly predictable manner. Bel and Genesis play with Evan, fucking with him every chance they get, just because they want to teach mean who cheat some sort of fucked up lesson.

But Bel and Genesis are characters that are written in such a way that you wanna see them get their comeuppance.

And it didn't even have to be Evan who did it, if you wanna keep the women strong, it could have been Evan's wife who came home and did something to them.

I suppose that would have messed with the satirical tone they were going for, but the story comes to a fairly unsatisfying conclusion.

Bel and Genesis, honestly, aren't that interesting of characters, at least when you compare them to the main character in Hard Candy, who could get away with what she did because she was such a complex character.

Bel and Genesis are just two unlikable people who have nothing better to do than to fuck with people's lives just to prove a point.

If the characters had a bit more substance, then it would have been better, but there's no substance. Keanu Reeves goes Nic Cage batshit crazy in some scenes.

So the acting, to me, is the most entertaining part of the entire movie. I just wish the characters would have been more interesting, the narrative would have felt more satisfying at its conclusion if they were.

I got some entertainment from the film, to be sure, but it's just not a movie that I feel comfortable calling good.

You can certainly do worse, I tried a worse movie yesterday prior to this one, but there's really nothing to see here.

Hard Candy is so much better, so watch that instead. Unless you want more sex, then this is your movie and not Hard Candy.

Jesse O Super Reviewer. Mar 07, The story follows a married man who's seduced by two women who show up at his door claiming to be lost, but the next day he finds himself a captive in his own home being judged and punished by the women for his infidelity.

Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas give terrifying performances that really pull off the crazy especially well. However, the film's theme is poorly constructed, as the girls are too violent and psychotic to be rooted for and Keanu Reeves' character is never revealed as having any dark secrets or having committed any egregious acts that are worthy of the punishment that he receives.

So while Knock Knock attempts to address some interesting issues, it ends up undercutting itself and devolving into mindless games of torment.

Dann M Super Reviewer. Nov 19, Not being a fan of Eli Roth or the torture porn sub-genre itself, I went into this film with serious reservations.

I hoped against hope that with the appealing inclusion of Keanu Reeves that this might be worth some time.

Reeves has been involved in the occasional dud here and there, but he's also been known to unearth a few gems in his time.

I was hoping for the latter and also hoping that Roth may have moved on from his gratuitous early films like Hostel and Cabin Fever and actually managed to mature somewhat Alas, my reservations were correct.
